Aaron Ramsey’s press conference today had the look of a veteran who’s enjoying watching the ‘young-uns’ learning the ropes.  There was a great deal that reminded me of Jess Fishlock. Mentioning others as much as his own preparations, a knowing smile at the somewhat awkward questions, a clear passion for what’s ahead, delivered a clipped practiced manner

For me, the most interesting part was when Ramsey talked about his own fitness. It appears that Juventus have had a bit of a one size fits all approach, that hasn’t been beneficial for the Caerphilly native. Now Ramsey is using his ‘own team’ of trainers, and he’s taken ‘things into his own hands.’

It was an interesting observation, and indicative of how Ramsey is becoming more self-aware and attuned to his bodies needs. Not training today, for example, is part of a clear personalised strategy, that can only benefit him as a player and us as a footballing nation.

Of course it’s a worry that a star player has to nurse his body to this extent, but far better this option than a dogmatic alternative.
