The moment we have waited a lifetime for, Cymru Women in a tournament draw and, like every party, we knew at some point the neighbours would turn up. Just like with the Men’s team in Euro 2016, and the World Cup of 2022, we have been drawn against England.

@StephenJBaker looks at the recent draws affecting the women’s team

Cymru were drawn in Group D alongside France, England and Netherlands. The matches will take place on the following dates and venues:

Our Head-to-Head record against these three countries has not been great but the last time we played Netherlands was back in July 2017 where we lost 5-0. Cymru Women haven’t played England since 2018, when they lost 3-0 at home and the night in Southampton when they drew 0-0 where we could see the start of something special happening. France on the other hand we have played in this decade, losing 2-0 in France in November 2021. Cymru hit the crossbar in the last minute which would have made it 1-1 but the French went straight up the other end and scored making in 2-0 on the night. A scoreline that flattered the French. In the return match in April ‘22 Cymru lost 2-1 in Parc Y Scarlets, Sophie Ingle scoring for Cymru.

How do we fair against these teams in the World Rankings?

A very tough group, but with the fearless team we have at the moment they will see these matches as an opportunity to show the World how good we really are.

Also drawn in the past few days was the Nations League fixtures, 2025 seeing Cymru return to the top tier, League A.

The fixtures taking place on the following dates;

Italy v Cymru 21st February 2025

Cymru v Sweden 25th February 2025

Cymru v Denmark 4th April 2025

Sweden v Cymru 8th April 2025

Denmark v Cymru 30th May 2025

Cymru v Italy 3rd June 2025

Denmark being the only team that we have a recent history against, as we were drawn against them last time we were in League A in 2023. When we lost 5-1 at home and 2-1 away under Gemma Grainger.

Great times ahead for Cymru Women, what fixtures to look forward to and hopefully more record breaking nights to send the team off to Switzerland.
