Stephen (@StephenJBaker) rounds out his visits to previous games with our Group B opponents. This time Cymru v England head to head.

This is the head to head, in our group, that we really don’t want to talk about.

Played 103. Won 14. Drew 21 Lost 68.

I will mention one defeat though, before we pretend those 21 draws and most of the 68 loses didn’t happen.

It was the first ever game between Cymru and England on 18th Jan 1879, which took place in the Kennington Oval, London where 200 people watched a Cymru side captained Samuel Llewellyn Kenrick, lose by two goals to one. That goal, the first Cymru goal scored against England was by William Henry Davies.

Now, let’s talk about those 14 glorious victories over the last 143 years. The wins for Cymru are split evenly seven at home and seven away. The first win in 1881 and the last 103 years later in 1984.

Also, do you see the pattern? It looks like if we win, it’s going to be 2-1!
