Our reporter Paul, Boosh Taliesin @BooshPemberton, returns with a look at a challenging game for Colwyn Bay, as they host Newtown.

Classy Newtown came to The Bay with a game plan and it paid off in spades. Discipline of shape, strength and quality saw them claim all 3 points.  The Bay still to truly find their feet in this their first Cymru prem season.

The ref`s whistle was the signal for Newtown to run riot at the Bay defence. Louis Robles found himself unmarked in the Bay box in the 3rd min. with his back to the goal holding off Steff Edwards, he used his strength to turn and shoot. 0 – 1 Newtown. 8 mins later a fantastic cross into the Bay area from Matty Jones, found the inform Robles who took on two defenders to make it 0 – 2 Newtown. To add to Bays, woes a long throw in found Zeli Ishmael unmarked and he slotted the ball home 0 – 3 Newtown. The Seagulls defence all at sea, the fear in the stands that this was going to be a battering.

Colwyn Bay reverted to a more conventional back 4, this seemed to steady the ship. The midfield slipping deeper back to give more cover, but ready to charge forward when needed. This paid off dividends with Colwyn growing in confidence. A great ball through from Bay Captain Alex Downes found Matty Hill in the box. He slipped a deft cross to Nick Rushton who, with the goal at his mercy, contrived to miss from a foot out. Matty Jones also missing from yards out for Newtown though.

Colwyn continued to grow in confidence. Rushton passing across the Newtown defence to Tommy Creamer who misjudged his tap in, to groans in the stands. The ball cleared only to Bays Danny Homes , who saw Alex Downs running in from defence. Boom Downes thundered home 1 – 3 , the Bay back in the game.

The second half started with Matty Jones missing from feet out to save Bay blushes. The game ebbed and flowed until a Bay corner in the 68th min once again found Alex Downes who bullet header made it 2 – 3 .  Colwyn Bay tried to come back to get something from the game, but Newtown`s game plan and discipline shone through.

Always the much better side Newtown sealed the game with a goal from Jason Oswell. The goal was not without controversy though. Pacey Bay Winger Dylan Allshorn was injured, the ref ignoring the pleas from the Bay players to stop the game.

Final score: Colwyn Bay 2 Newtown 4
