Cardiff City Women 6-1 Barry Town Women

Cardiff City Stadium 29-10-23

Goal fest at the CCS, in front of a 1000+ crowd …. Stephen @stephenjabker had a great night out.

In their first game of the season at the Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff City Women took on Barry Town Women, in front of a crowd of 1,092. The crowd barely had time to settle into their seats when the first goal of the night was scored.

In the second minute of the match, a pass from just inside the Barry half was picked up by Danielle Green. She cut inside and from a yard outside the corner of the box unleashed a stunning shot that curled in the top right-hand corner of goals. A great goal to start off a night of great goals.

Barry Town were still shocked from the early goal when they went two goals down six minutes later. Siobhan Walsh headed home from eight yards after a perfectly floated corner kick by Seren Watkins.

After not troubling the Cardiff defence during the first twenty minutes, Barry Town’s Hana Bennett scored a spectacular goal in the twenty-third minute. Given space around thirty yards out from goal, Bennett took a touch and with the Cardiff keeper only a yard off the line, Bennett floated over the top of Chamberlain to make it 2-1. A goal reminiscent of Ronaldinho’s against England in the 2002 World Cup.

Cardiff took control of the match after that goal and with the teams going into the half time break at 2-1, the match seemed back on. But as with the first half it only took two minutes of the second half for Cardiff City to restore the two goal advantage. Seren Watkins received the ball in a central position, ten yards outside the box. Taking a touch then firing it over the keeper in an almost identical goal to Hana Bennett’s for Barry Town.

Three minutes later Cardiff put the game out of reach of Barry Town making it 4-1 when a cross from Danielle Green landed at the feet of Molly Kehoe seven yards out, knocking it in without having to check her stride.

The Cardiff City fans were on their feet again nine minutes later when on the hour a shot from outside box by Player of the Match Danielle Green was parried away by Erin Brennan in the Barry Town goals. With Eliza Collie being the first to react to the loose ball, knocking it in to make it 5-1.

The final goal of the night came seven minutes from time when Tija Richardson made it 6-1. The excellent Danielle Green’s cross found Richardson unmarked, to head home from six yards. A very good win for Cardiff City who are three points clear of Swansea at the top of league after six games. The two sides play each other in Swansea this Sunday.
